About Elmhurst:

Elmhurst was founded in 2017, but the company’s roots date back to 1925. Formed in Queens, NY as Elmhurst Dairy, the multigenerational, family-run organization operated for almost a century. Henry Schwartz, son of the founder, Max, took over the business in the 1970s and ran it successfully for 40 years.

After a fortuitous meeting with plant nutrition pioneer, Dr. Cheryl Mitchell, Henry made a progressive pivot and decided to close his famous dairy plant. He repurposed his iconic brand and started Elmhurst Milked – a line of innovative, nutritious plant-based beverages.

Dr. Cheryl and her patented HydroRelease™ technology provided Henry the confidence to make such a prescient shift. This proprietary process uses water to liberate nutrients from raw grains, nuts, and seeds. These nutrients then recombine naturally to form a smooth, creamy beverage without the need for industrial chemicals and thickeners. The HydroRelease™ method allows Elmhurst to retain more nuts and grains per glass, resulting in a new category of nutrient-rich, non-dairy beverages.

All Elmhurst products have six simple ingredients or less, and no added gums or emulsifiers. Its nut varieties have up to four times as many nuts as other leading brands, while its new oat and brown rice varieties contain 20g of whole grains per glass, and are stamped by the Oldways Whole Grains Council.

Elmhurst products have multiple uses, including cereal, coffee, smoothies, cooking, and drinking from the glass.
